Woman With Baby Caught Shoplifting
Two local women were taken into custody last week after they were caught shoplifting while they had a baby with them.
Officers with the Lawrenceburg Police Department were notified of the incident by security personnel at Walmart, 2130 North Locust Avenue. They reported that they had detained two women who had filled two carts and a purse with store merchandise, then left without paying for them.
The reporting officer indicates that one of the women had her six month old son with her at the time the crime occurred. He noted that when he spoke with her he could see that the baby was wet. He said he asked the woman whether she had any diapers or a change of clothing with her, but that she did not.
The officer went into the store and purchased diapers and some clothes, then returned and had the woman change the child immediately. The officer referred the case to the Department of Children’s Services to have case workers check on his well being in the future.
As a result of the incident Felicia Gail Smith, 47, and Deidra Michelle Collins, 20, both of 194 Byrd Road, were charged with the crime of shoplifting. Collins was additionally charged with one count of child neglect or endangerment.
